For SEO, It’s Quality Over Quantity
When our clients ask us how they can improve their search engine standing, our typical response goes something like this: make a long-term commitment to posting original, high-quality, timely content. Having spent years in traditional newsrooms, we saw firsthand the websites that dominated search engine results were the ones that built their reputation through publishing this kind of work.
A recent article from Search Engine Journal makes the case that having a large number of articles on your site won’t necessarily equate to better search engine rankings. The author states the issue succinctly:
Just putting out more content isn’t going to make you magically rank. SEO has evolved immensely over the years, and the search engines are smarter than ever. I’ve seen many hedge their bets on hitting “publish” more than the competition — only to see all that work was for naught. Lousy content will always deliver lousy results.
