Are You Ready for #Mobilegeddon?
You know when the media starts scandalizing words and adding “-gate” (Watergate) or “-geddon” (Armageddon) to something it’s a clue an over-hyped story is usually not too far behind!
But if you have a business that relies on search traffic to your website to make money and it’s not mobile friendly by April 21, your digital Big Brother, also known as Google, is going to punish you!
Welcome to #Mobilegeddon!
So what’s the digital search world going to look like after the 21st?
Google says it will be expanding its use “of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”
If your website is already mobile optimized, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about on April 21, in fact there’s a good chance you might see a boost in your search engine traffic.
But if your customers are forced to “pinch and zoom” in order to read the content on your website, you need to take IMMEDIATE action.
Google isn’t saying exactly how much a company’s web traffic will suffer if its site isn’t fully mobile optimized, but Google’s Zineb Ait Bahajji from the Webmaster Trends team was recently quoted as saying the algorithm change will have more impact than Google’s two most recent search engine changes, Panda and Penguin!
