MyMobileLyfe survey: Where laptops hold an edge
More than 50 percent of U.S. adults owns a smartphone that can access the Web. But a survey conducted by MyMobileLyfe shows that when it comes to digital content, many prefer to access it the traditional way.
MyMobileLyfe asked 99 U.S. adults 18 and up who owned smartphones which device they preferred to use for consuming digital content. Our survey found that nearly a third of respondents said the device they prefer to consume digital content is the laptop computer.
This is the same device that, according to a recent report by Gartner Inc., is tumbling in popularity. Shipments of PCs, an indicator of popular interest, are down about 6.6 percent from 2013. But that is not preventing consumers from making the laptop PC their preferred choice for accessing online content.
According to MyMobileLyfe’s survey, 22 percent of those polled use smartphones to get their online content. An equal number access their content through tablets. But a quarter of those surveyed preferred to get their content through their desktops.
In other words, smartphone owners use several different devices to consume content. The focus on content creation for handheld devices notwithstanding, your brand’s content must adapt itself for optimal viewing on all devices.
