Consumers Turn to Smartphones, Tablets for Holiday Shopping
Consumers are increasingly turning to their smartphones to shop and redeem coupons this holiday season. The coupon audience is large, and the upcoming holidays are a huge opportunity for your company to reach new consumers.
According to eMarketer, it’s estimated that in 2014, only 36.5% of marketers will offer mobile coupons, but by 2016 that number is expected to grow to 44.5% due to the continued adoption of smartphone and tablet purchasing habits.
Consumers anticipate using their smartphones and tablets to make holiday purchase decisions, primarily to research products — 42% via smartphone and 53% on tablet.
Another one-third will turn to their smartphone or tablet to look up retailer information like store hours and location, among other shopping activities.
Companies continue to see an uptick in referral traffic from social media sites, and it’s driving purchasing behavior. In 2013, 65% of shoppers used their phones for a shopping related activity while out shopping, according to Facebook.
“Mobile is perceived as a hero for shoppers and Facebook is a key companion.”
Additinally, Facebook is now used by more than 1 billion mobile users – so it is an extremely important social channel to leverage while consumers are browsing online, and shopping in stores.
According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), the 2014 holiday shopping season is shaping up to be an “omnichannel” one, in which more than half of U.S. consumers plan to make at least one purchase online, across a variety of channels.
Developing a targeted mobile advertising and marketing plan for the holiday season will help boost your sales and create opportunities for new consumers to discover your brand or product.
